Women's Health and the Pro Life Movement
Calling women murderers isn't having the desired result and proclaiming the ZEF's (zygote, embryo, fetus) merits isn't going too well either! So, what is a zealous pro lifer to do?? Talk about women's health. That's it! Women's Health! After all, everybody likes women's health, right? Well, almost everybody as we will see from the links below - even though they are undermining their own agenda by opposing the HPV vaccine.
Visit any pro life site and you will find ample scaremongering and misinformation on the dangers of abortion and contraception. The most popular myths are the ones about abortion causing breast cancer and depression. Pro lifers are very selective about which aspects of women's health they take on. For examble: even though they oppose choice, they choose to ignore the fact that thousands of women in developing countries die from pregnancy complications, unsafe, illegal abortions or suffer from too many pregnancies. According to the WHO (World Health Organization), around 68.000 women die from unsafe, illegal abortions every year :

The Christian right is even opposed to the HPV vaccine. Bridget Maher of the Family Research Council told the British magazine "New Scientist" that:

For all their talk about life, they prefer that women die from cancer rather than have sex, let's face it, "pro life" isn't about saving "babies", it's about putting women back in their place! On the one hand they tell women that they will get breast cancer if they have an abortion, on the other hand they oppose the HPV vaccine which would protect women from cancer. While they love to pretend concern for women's health, the zygote, fetus always takes precedence over the woman.
